Article – a, an and the
Article – A, An तथा The को Article कहा जाता है।
Article निम्नलिखित दो प्रकार का होता है –
(i) Definite Article
(ii) Indefinite Article
Indefinite Article :- A तथा An को Indefinite Article कहा जाता है क्योंकि यें किसी अनिश्चित countable noun से पहले प्रयोग किए जाते हैं।
Definite Article :- The को Definite Article कहा जाता है क्योंकि यह किसी निश्चित noun से पहले प्रयोग किया जाता है।
Rules of Article
Indefinite Article – a, an से संबंधित महत्वपूर्ण नियम :-
Rule 1 – Indefinite article – a का प्रयोग उस अनिश्चित countable noun से पहले किया जाता है जिसका उच्चारण हिंदी के व्यंजक ( क, ख, ग …..) से प्रारंभ होता है।
Example – a book, a pen, a man etc.
Rule 2 – Indefinite article – an का प्रयोग उस अनिश्चित countable noun से पहले किया जाता है जिसका उच्चारण हिंदी के स्वर (अ, आ, इ …..) से प्रारंभ होता है।
Example :- an orange, an hour, an honest man etc.
Rule 3 – Such के पश्चात a या an का प्रयोग किया जाता है।
Rule 4 – kind या sort of के पश्चात a या an का प्रयोग नही किया जाता है।
Rule 5 – Half के पश्चात a या an का प्रयोग किया जाता है।

Definite Article – the से संबंधित महत्वपूर्ण नियम :-
Rule 1- Poor या rich से पहले The का प्रयोग करने से क्रमशः उनका अर्थ गरीब लोग व धनी लोग हो जाता है ।
Rule 2 – प्राय: बीमारीओ के नाम से पहले Article ‘The’ का प्रयोग नहीं किया जाता है।
Note – (खसरा) measles व mumps (गले का रोग) के नाम से पहले Article ‘The’ का प्रयोग होता है।
Rule 3 – दिन, महिना, मौसम के नाम से पहले Anticle ‘The’ का प्रयोग नहीं होता है ।
Rules 4 – Proper noun से पहले Article ‘The’ का प्रयोग नहीं किया जा सकता है ।
Rula 5 – जब किसी व्यक्ति या वस्तु को किसी उपाधि से पुकारा जाता है तो उस उपाधि से पहले Article ‘The’ का प्रयोग किया जाता है ।
Example – Kalidas is the Shakespeare of India.
Rule – 6 Comparative degree का प्रयोग Adverb की भाँति प्रयोग होने पर उस comprative dgree से पहले The का प्रयोग किया जाता है ।
Example –
The more you study, the more you learn.
Rule – 7 जब एकवचन का Common noun अपनी सम्पूर्ण जाति का बोध करता है तो उससे पहले Article ‘the’ का प्रयोग किया जाता है ।
Example –
(i) The cow is a pet animal.
(ii) The dog barks at the strangers.

Rule 8 – Abstract Noun व Material Noun से पहले सामान्य अर्थ में उनसे पहले Article ‘the’ का प्रयोग नहीं होता है परन्तु विशेष अर्थ में उनसे पहले ‘The’ का प्रयोग किया जाता है ।
Rule 9 – वायुयान (Aeroplane), पानी का जहाज ( Ship) ट्रेन, समाचार पत्र, नदी, नहर (Canal), सागर, महारसागर, प्रसिद्ध इमारत, धार्मिक पुस्तक इन सबके नाम से पहले The का प्रयोग किया जाता है ।
Rule 10 – Himalayas, U. S. A. व Punjab के नाम से पहले The का प्रयोग किया जाता है।
Rule 11 – Mount Abu व Mount Everest के नाम से पहले The का प्रयोग नहीं किया जाता है।
Rule 12 – प्राय: किसी देश की भाषा से पहले The का प्रयोग करने से वहां के लोगों का बोध होता है ।
Rule 13 – In trouble ( मुसीबत में ) on foot ( पैदल ) By train ऐसे Phrases में किसी Article का प्रयोग नहीं किया जाता है ।
Rule 14 – सूर्य, चन्द्रमा, पृथ्वी, आकाश से पहले The का प्रयोग किया जाता है ।
Rule 15. यदि दिशा के नाम पहले किसी Preposion का प्रयोग हो तो उस दिशा से पहले The का प्रयोग किया जाता है ।

Rula16 – यदि दो या दो अधिक Adjective या noun एक ही व्यक्ति का बोध कराये तो हम Article ‘The’ का प्रयोग पहले आये हुए Noun या Adjective से पहले करते है।
Rule 17 – खेलों के नाम से पहले Article ‘The’ का प्रयोग नहीं किया जाता है ।
Rule 18 – Breakfast, Lunch या Dinner से पहले The का प्रयोग नहीं किया जाता है।
Rule 19 – Superlative degree से पहले Article ‘The’ का प्रयोग किया जाता है।

( 1 ) He completed his work in half a hour.
Correct – He completed his work in half an hour.
( 2 ) Bird has wings.
Correct – The Bird has wings.
( 3 )Sun has set in west.
Correct – The sun has set in west .
( 4 ) The English is a difficult language.
Correct – English is a difficult language.
( 5 ) The rich is happy.
Correct – The rich are happy.

(13) He will go there by the train.
Correct – He will go there by train.
(14) Mumbai is Manchester of India.
Correct – Mumbai is the Manchester of India.
(15) Moon is smaller than sun.
Correct – The moon is smaller than the sun.
(16) Higher you go, less oxygen you will get.
Correct – The higher you go, the less oxygen you will get.
