Formation of Complex Sentences by using Adverb Clause
Adverb Clause – Adverb clause के अंतर्गत time (समय), place (स्थान), reason (कारण), condition (शर्त), contrast (विरोध), purpose (उद्देश्य), result (परिणाम), manner (ढंग या तरीका) व comparison (तुलना) का भाव देखने को मिलता है।
Adverb Clause में प्रयोग होने वाले conjunction इस प्रकार है –
1. Adverb Clause Showing ‘Time’ – as soon as, no sooner + did/does/do/had + …. than, after, till, until, before, when etc.
2. Adverb Clause Showing ‘Place’ – where, wherever
3. Adverb Clause Showing ‘Reason’ – because, since
4. Adverb Clause Showing ‘Condition’ – if, unless
5. Adverb Clause Showing ‘Comparison’ – than, as … as, so … as
6. Adverb Clause Showing ‘Result’ – so …… that
7. Adverb Clause Showing ‘Purpose’ – so that, lest
8. Adverb Clause Showing ‘Contrast’ – though …. yet, although …. yet
9. Adverb Clause Showing ‘Manner’ – as (वैसे ही / जैसे कि)
Note – so …. that के साथ can या could का प्रयोग होता है। so that (ताकि) के साथ may या might प्रयोग होता है। lest (कहीं ऐसा न हो कि) के साथ should का प्रयोग होता है।

Examples –
(i) I saw a snake. I ran away.
Complex – As soon as I saw a snake, I ran away.
(ii) The bell rang. The students came in the class.
Complex – As soon as the bell rang, the students came in the class.
(iii) The tea is very hot. I can not drink it.
Complex – I can not drink the tea because it is very hot.
(iv) Ravi is very weak. He can not pass the examination.
Complex – Ravi is so weak that he can not pass the examination.
(v) He wanted to buy a bike. He saved Rs. 500 per month.
Complex – He saved Rs. 500 per month so that he might buy a bike.

(vi) Rohan saves Rs. 10 per month. He wants buy a book.
Complex – Rohan saves Rs. 10 per month so that he may buy a book.
(vii) Ravi is more intelligent. Ramesh is less intelligent.
Complex – Ramesh is not so intelligent as Ravi.
(viii) Ravi is poor. He is honest.
Complex – Although Ravi is poor yet he is honest.
Or
Complex – Although Ravi is poor, he is honest.
(ix) He worked hard. He failed in the examination.
Complex – Though he worked hard yet he failed in the examination.
Or
Complex – Though he worked hard, he failed in the examination.
(x) Work hard. You will get success.
Complex – If you work hard, you will get success.
Or
Complex – You will not get success unless you work hard.
(xi) Nehru went many places. He was welcomed everywhere.
Complex – Nehru was welcomed everywhere he went.
