Participle
Participle = Verb + Adjective
ऐसा शब्द जो Verb तथा Adjective दोनो का कार्य करता है, Participle कहलाता है।
Example –
(1) I saw a wounded snake.
(2) Barking dog seldom bite.
(3) Having competed my work, I went to office.
Participle निम्नलिखित तीन प्रकार का होता है –
(1) Present Participle
(2) perfect Participle
(3) Past Participle
Present Participle –
Verb के first from में ing लगाने से Present Participle का निर्माण होता है तथा इसका हिंदी अर्थ लेने पर क्रिया के अंत में ‘ते हुए’ शब्द देखने को मिलता है l
Example –
(1) I saw a man smoking a cigarettee.
(2) Seeing a lion, I ran away.
Perfect Participle –
Perfect Participle का निर्माण Active व Passive voice में होता है – having के साथ verb का third from प्रयोग करने से active voice में होता है तथा having been के साथ verb का third from का प्रयोग करने से Passive Voice में होता है ।
Perfect Participle का हिंदी अर्थ लेने पर प्रक्रिया के अंत में ‘करके’ शब्द देखने को मिलता है l
Example –
(i) Having written a letter, he posted it.
(ii) Having been punished by teacher, he felt sorry.
Past Particible –
Past Particible – Verb का third from होता है तथा यह जिस noun की विशेषता बतलाता है।
Example –
(i) I found my lost book.
(ii) I saw a wounded dog.

Participle से सम्बन्धित कुछ प्रमुख नियम –
Rule 1 – Present Participle जिस noun की विशेषता बतलाता है प्रायः उससे पहले प्रयोग किया जाता है ।
Example –
Seeing the teacher, I ran away into the class.
Rule 2 – like, find, feel, make, get, want, have इत्यादि verb के बाद noun या pronoun का प्रयोग करके ही Past Participle का प्रयोग किया जाता है ।
Example –
I got my house repaired.
Rule 3 – catch, small, imagine, fine, keep, set, see, here, start etc.
Verb के पश्चात Present Participal का प्रयोग किया जाता है परंतु आवश्यकता अनुसार इन दोनों के बीच noun या pronoun का प्रयोग किया जाता है ।
Example –
He kept me waiting.
